The headquarters offices of the Natural Lands Trust is a 13,000 SF addition and renovation to a 19th century farmhouse. The building is bermed into a south-facing hill to minimize its apparent height and improve its energy efficiency. The barn-like form and board-and-batten siding provide an appropriate aesthetic for the rural site. The project features a geothermal HVAC system and a daylighting system that minimizes the use of electirc lighting when there is sufficient natural illumination. Materials include locally salvaged stone, recycled and renewable finishes, wood grown in ecologically well-managed forests. The project expects to receive a LEED green building certification.
